George from Stafford Springs, CT Writes: My Eye Burns

Q: George from Stafford Springs, CT writes:

Why do My Eyes Burn When I Swim Under Water? After the swim, my eyes are always irritated and red. Can you tell me why this happens? And what can be done to fix this?

Teddy Bear Pools & Spas

The first element to look at is the pH level. Unbalance pH can be also the cause of eye redness or burning sensation. Human beings have a pH of 7.2-7.4 on the skin and eyes. That is why it is the ideal pH in swimming pool water for a proper balance.

Chlorine levels in the swimming pool water can also be a cause. High levels of chlorine can surely create eye irritation.

The Fix:

Buy Goggles…. Just Kidding! I would suggest getting your pool water tested professionally. Bring me a water sample, I’ll test your balance and we will figure out what is the culprit. We also have a large selection of goggles…

Hope this helps.
