Rain Poses Challenge for Some Area Businesses in Agawam, MA

AGAWAM, Mass. (abc40) — It seems as though every day we’re trying to make our plans around a pending shower or thunderstorm. For most of us we can just cancel whatever we have planned but for some area businesses that live and die by the weather its not quite that simple.  Whether your trying to fit in a round of golf, taking a dip in the pool or just mowing the lawn, this summer doing anything outdoors has been quite a challenge and these outdoor driven industries have certainly taken a hit.  Dianne Hieronymus of Teddy Bear Pools and Spas says, “when its rainy and dreary people really aren’t thinking about purchasing a pool.” Instead they are selling chemicals and skimmers. All the rain isn’t good for the water in the pool.  Meanwhile, although the grass is green and lush all this rain is not good for area landscapers. Gary Courchesne of G&H Landscaping says, “its slowed us down on our overall production. On our mowing end its kept things busy. On the sprinkler end its slowed down quiet a bit.”

Out on the links at Crestview Country Club in Agawam, MA the course is soggy and scattered with puddles. Play has been interrupted numerous times not just for a few hours but in some cases for a day or too at a time. The Pro at Crestview David DiRico says, “we’ve been closed a few days which is not usual. Usually we get some heavy rains. We can get out and play. “
